Some 1,000 local students and school district personnel will have a say on lunches for more than 41 area school districts and charter schools.

The Region 5 Educational Service Center Food Service Cooperative will host its 23rd Annual Food Show and Tasting from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at the Beaumont Civic Center.

The event — titled “Up Up and Away We Go with Food and Nutrition!” — will give students, school administrators and campus food service staff the opportunity to provide input in the selection of offerings that will appear on next year’s cafeteria menus, according to a news release.

“This event is the largest of its kind in the state, showcasing food and beverage items for the many districts that participate in the cooperative,” the release states.

Vendors will be able to receive direct feedback from customers on their offerings as they work to meet the federal and state nutrition requirements.

The Civic Center is located at 701 Main St. in Beaumont.
